Welcome to Perth

Perth, Western Australia, is one of the world’s most isolated major cities, located between the Swan River and the Indian Ocean. Despite the distance, Perth is modern, safe, easy to navigate and well connected internationally.

This section contains practical information for delegates travelling to ADASS XXXVI, including flights, visas, accommodation, transport and local information.

Flights

Perth is well connected to Asia, the Middle East and major Australian cities, although travel times can be significant for many international visitors.

Direct international services operate between Perth and several major hubs including:

  • London
  • Paris
  • Rome
  • Singapore
  • Dubai
  • Doha
  • Bangkok

Most visitors from Europe, North America and South America will travel via a single international connection, commonly through Singapore, Dubai, Doha or eastern Australian cities such as Sydney or Brisbane.

November is generally outside the peak Australian holiday season, although delegates are encouraged to book flights early where possible.

Visas and Entry Requirements

Most international visitors to Australia require a valid visa before travelling. Visa requirements vary depending on nationality, passport type and length of stay.

Conference delegates are strongly encouraged to check visa requirements well in advance of travel and apply as early as possible. Further information on visa requirements and application processes is available from the Australian Department of Home Affairs.

Australia offers a range of visitor visa options, including:

  • Electronic Travel Authority (ETA)
  • eVisitor visas
  • Visitor visas

Many short-term conference visitors will be eligible to apply for an electronic visa, although processing times may vary.

Delegates should ensure that:

  • their passport remains valid for the duration of their stay,
  • visa conditions allow conference attendance,
  • and any transit visa requirements for connecting flights are also checked.

Invitation letters for visa purposes will be available for registered conference participants where required. Contact the LOC at [email protected].
