Arriving in Perth
Perth Airport is well connected to Perth’s CBD, the University of Western Australia (UWA), and surrounding suburbs by train, bus, taxi and rideshare services.
Biosecurity and Quarantine
Australia has strict biosecurity and quarantine laws designed to protect its unique environment and agricultural industries.
Visitors must declare food, plant material, wooden items, animal products, and some outdoor equipment upon arrival in Australia. Items such as fresh food, seeds, untreated wood, soil-contaminated running gear and some biological materials may be restricted or require inspection.
Failure to declare prohibited or restricted items can result in significant fines, even if the items are permitted after inspection. Please take this warning seriously, as the sniffer dogs are very good at their job.
Public Transport
Perth’s public transport network is operated by Transperth and includes trains, buses and ferries across the metropolitan area. The Airport Line provides a direct rail connection between Perth Airport and the city centre, while regular bus services connect the CBD with UWA and nearby accommodation areas.
Travelling on Transperth is straightforward. Simply tag on and tag off using:
- a SmartRider card,
- a contactless credit or debit card,
- or a phone or smartwatch using Apple Pay or Google Pay.
Perth uses a flat “Go Anywhere” fare system, allowing up to three hours of travel anywhere on the network. Current fares are:
- $2.80 using SmartRider with Autoload
- $3.50 using contactless payment or cash
Perth also includes a Free Transit Zone (FTZ) in the central city, where many bus services are free. In addition, the free CAT (Central Area Transit) buses provide convenient access around the CBD.
UWA is directly connected to the city via the free Purple CAT service, while regular Transperth routes, including the 24 and 950, also provide frequent services between the CBD and the university.
For journey planning, real-time tracking and service updates, delegates are encouraged to use the Transperth JourneyPlanner website or mobile app.
